How To Turn iPhone’s “Namedrop” OFF

Apple’s iPhone’s new iOS 17 operating system includes “NameDrop” which is activated by default on the phones of users who update their software to IOS 17.

Even U.S. police departments are issuing alerts to parents about “Namedrop.”Jefferson Hills Police Department recommends parents whose kids have iPhones turn the feature off to protect the children:

“This feature could allow the sharing of your contact info just by bringing your phones close together,” the department wrote in a Facebook post. “Don’t forget to change these settings after the update on your children’s phones, also, to help keep them safe as well.”

Here’s how to shut off the NameDrop feature.

  • First, go to your iPhone’s settings.
  • Then click on “General,” followed by “AirDrop.”
  • Next, to turn off NameDrop, toggle the “Bringing Devices Together” sharing option button to the off position.
