In June 2017 France released radiation measurements for hundreds of cell phones tested in body contact positions. The results rocked the nation. Cell phones tested in body contact positions had radiation measurements that far exceeded Europe’s allowable limits. Since 2012, 208 of the 273 phone models, including Apple, Motorola, Samsung, and Nokia tested indirect body contact positions were higher than regulatory limits.
The Phonegate scandal is the namesake of Diesel Gate, when Volkswagen forged its diesel emission exams in the laboratory and it was later found out that cars on the road emitted far more fumes. Phonegate hasn’t gotten the same attention as Diesel Gate but the rigging is the same. Cell phones tested by France “passed” laboratory tests but in real-life conditions emit far higher radiation levels.
