The incident took place around 3.30 pm Sunday at Vijayashanti Heights building in Kasturba Cooperative Housing Society in Vishrantwadi. The base unit housing the power supply, and electrical and electronic systems of the cell phone tower had caught fire and intense fumes of smoke started emanating as the fire was spreading to the rest of the cell tower structure. The tower and the base unit were located on the fifth-floor terrace of the building.
