The National Frequency Agency (ANFR) ofFrance published an analysis of more than 3000 measurements of public exposure to wireless radiation. Half of these measurements were carried out near sites identified to accommodate 5G antennas, before they are put into service. The other half of the measurements were taken at the same location, after 5G was put into service.

The findings show that exposures increase. Results show an average increase of 16% for the 3.5 GHz band. 

As the reports states:

“Finally, in addition to the 3,000 measurements carried out according to the regulatory measurement protocol, and taking into account the low 5G traffic observed at this stage of the deployment, 370 5G sites were the subject of specific measurements in the 3.5 GHz band with generation artificial traffic by downloading a 1 GB file. Initial results show an average increase of 16% in exposure. These results suggest a long-term increase of around 20% in overall exposure in areas where the 3.5 GHz band will be deployed, to be compared with the 50% additional capacity that this new band provides for networks. mobiles open to the public.”

Although reports use the word “low” to describe some of the increases, this misleading adjective is used against he backdrop of ICNIRP limits which are far far to high to protect the public and environment. Effects have been found at very “low’ levels of wireless radiation. Most importantly, the 5G networks are not in full use and when they are  more n use- in combination with the continued increase in 4G wireless networks- the ambient radiation levels will increase.  The report talks about new steerable beam antennas which direct their exposure to 5G users but because “few users use the network”exposure is “therefore reduced” ignoring the fact hat more people will use the network over time and ignoring the fact that when the steerable beam contacts a human or insect, tree or bird, there is an exposure- one that has yet to be fully quantified or researched for long term safety.

The reality is that 5G is a marketing term and  companies use it to densify wireless networks- meaning 4Gand other networks are proliferating. More and more cell antenna sites are built increasing overall wireless exposures.

Fact: In addition to France several other governments measure wireless radiation including Spain, Austria, Greece, Turkey, India, Israel, Gibraltar, Brussels Belgium,  Switzerland, Bulgaria, Tunisia, Malta, Brazil, Bahrain, Monaco, French Polynesia, Bhuton and Senegal. Fact: 5G and 4G densification will increase ambient levels of wireless radiofrequency radiation. Peer-reviewed research has demonstrated a myriad of adverse effects from wireless radiofrequency radiation including increased brain cancer, DNA damage, oxidative stress, immune dysfunction,  altered brain development, damaged reproduction, sleep changes, hyperactivity, and memory damage. (RESEARCH HERE)

A 2018 study published in Annals of Telecommunications found increased RF-EMF exposure from small cell LTE networks in two urban cities in France and the Netherlands. Researchers measured the RF-EMF from LTE (Long-Term Evolution) MC (macro cells meaning large cell towers) and SC networks (low-powered small cell base stations)  and found that the small cell networks increased the radio emissions from base stations (called downlink) by a factor of 7–46  while decreasing the radio emissions from user equipment exposure (called ) by a factor of 5–17. So while the devices themselves could emit less radiation, the cell antennas will increase the levels from cell antennas (Mazloum et al., 2019). This study shows the increased exposures would be involuntary. We can turn our phones off, but we cannot turn off the antennas in the neighborhood.

A 2020 paper “Radiation Analysis in a Gradual 5G Network Deployment Strategy,”  presented at the  IEEE 3rd 5G World Forum documents how engineers found significant increases in levels of  radio frequency radiationwould result if a mmWave-based 5G network was fully deployed in Austin Texas. The researchers first mapped the pre-existing LTE antennas and then laid out the real world design for the densification of cell towers and signal repeaters which would be needed in the City in order to fully build out a mmWave-based 5G network. The engineers then simulated the RF power densities that would be experienced in the outdoor environments should the 5G mmWave antennas be installed. They found the fully deployed  5G mmWave network would result in significant increases in outdoor RF levels for the City. The researchers conclude that, “This suggests that 5G mobile networks can not yet be classified as safe for the public, and demands serious considerations before using mmWave communications for 5G networks, given the potential harms it could afflict on the public.” The engineers  created a heat map to show the increased radiation levels should 5G be fully deployed in Austin Texas.

The National Frequency Agency (ANFR) publishes an analysis of more than 3000 measurements of public exposure to waves carried out in 2020 and 2021. Half of these measurements were carried out near sites identified to accommodate 5G antennas, before they are put into service. The other half of the measurements were taken at the same location, after 5G was put into service, thus making it possible to precisely identify the evolution of exposure linked to this new network. All the frequency bands currently used in 5G have been studied. The results show that the exposure is comparable before and a few months after the introduction of 5G.

At the request of Cédric O, Secretary of State for Digital Transition and Electronic Communications, the ANFR launched a vast program of measurements to characterize the influence of 5G on the level of exposure to electromagnetic waves in 700 MHz, 2100 MHz and 3.5 GHz frequency bands. As a reminder, the so-called “low” bands (700 MHz and 2100 MHz) have already been used for many years by 3G and 4G. The new 3.5 GHz frequency band was the subject of authorizations for use by ARCEP on November 12, 2020.

Regarding the low bands, the first results show that the public’s exposure to waves remains stable despite their adaptation to 5G.

Regarding the 3.5 GHz band, the first results show that the exposure increases very slightly, the additional contribution of this new band being able to be evaluated at 0.11 V / m, which is low compared to the limit. regulatory, set at 61 V / m for this band.

This frequency band reserved for 5G has the particularity of being equipped with new steerable beam antennas which direct their exposure to 5G users located in their vicinity. In the current state of 5G deployment, few users use the network and exposure is therefore reduced. The ANFR will therefore continue its analysis in order to monitor changes in exposure as a function of the increase in traffic.
