Summary

While France filed a formal objection in 2020 to correct the flawed torso SAR measurement (tested at 5 mm instead of direct body contact), the European Commission has still not taken action despite support from several Member States and recommendations from ANSES (2019).

As a result, hundreds of millions of Europeans are using devices that exceed regulatory limits by 3 to 4 times under real-life use conditions (pocket, bra).

Actions requested from the European Commission and Members of the European Parliament

  • A clear timeline for processing the French objection
  • A comprehensive revision of the completely failing SAR standards
  • Effective protection for European citizens

Phonegate Alert has referred the matter to DG GROW and will today call on all Members of the European Parliament to demand these measures.

In France, our work has already led to the withdrawal/update of 60 mobile phones and 2 connected devices that were non-compliant.

Marc Arazi, President — “Five years of inaction are unacceptable given the health issues at stake. MEPs must act NOW.”
