In a landmark ruling, the Supreme Court has sided with Kilkenny campaigners Peter and Doreen Thomson, allowing their challenge against the approval of a mobile phone mast beside their home to finally be heard. This significant decision raises serious concerns about bias within the planning system issues that undermine our right to object on health and environmental grounds and erode the foundations of democratic accountability. It stands as a powerful reminder that communities must have a voice and the ability to hold planning authorities to account when public safety is at stake.
Too often, people are left stressed and powerless, forced to accept the risks of these installations without recourse. Many cannot afford the time, money, or emotional toll required to fight such cases all the way to the highest court. It is fundamentally unfair that individuals and families are made to carry this burden, told simply to get on with it.
We stand with the Thomsons and call on all concerned citizens to demand greater transparency, stronger protections, and meaningful action to safeguard our homes and health from unchecked wireless infrastructure. Together, we can ensure no mast goes up without proper scrutiny and respect for public wellbeing.
