RE: REPORT ON THE GRAVE MISTAKE OF ‘ANTENNA DENSIFICATION IN THE U.S – “Re-Inventing Wires: The Future of Landlines and Networks”

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Enclosed please find a link to a paper published by the National Institute for Science, Law and Public Policy (NISLAPP) in 2018, “Re-Inventing Wires: The Future of Landlines and Networks”which is directly relevant to your Committee hearing “Winning the Race to 5G and the Next Era of Technology Innovation in the United States.”

We strongly recommend all Members of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation read this report, and accompanying bulleted Press Release

These documents explain the history of how and why the U.S. has favored wireless transmission for internet access networks over far superior hard-wired technologies. And how legislators have been entirely misled about the adequacy of wireless

“Re-Inventing Wires: The Future of Landlines and Networks” explains, from 13 important angles, why “fiber to the premises” (“FTTP”)–rather than the planned ‘antenna densification’ with 5G (and 4G) antennas–will strengthen U.S. communications, national security and the U.S. economy.  Each of these angles (also listed on the attached postcard) are very important to your constituents.

The key learning is that wireless networks are not as fast, secure, reliable or energy-efficient as wired systems, no matter what the telecom industry may tell you.

And the U.S. should instead be investing in hard-wired telecommunications infrastructure to support economic growth, bridge the digital divide and diminish risks to security, privacy, public health and the environment.

Thank you for your attention to this important report, “Re-Inventing Wires: The Future of Landlines and Networks”, whereby you will be informed by parties without commercial conflicts of interest of the many extremely important misunderstandings guiding the present enthusiasm for further ‘antenna densification’ and 5G.

An audio recording from a panel on this topic at the Commonwealth Club of California in 2018, including the paper’s author, Dr. Timothy Schoechle, can be heard here:

It is essential Members of your Committee, and all of Congress, understand the grave mistake underway with regard to telecommunications infrastructure, that will not serve the interests of the American people, and will seriously harm and disadvantage our country in many regards.

Very truly yours,
