Standing Up for Worker Safety: 5G, Wireless Infrastructure & Public Health
Date: 23 July 2025
From: Eileen O’Connor, Co-founder & Director, EM Radiation Research Trust
The EM Radiation Research Trust has issued a formal Open Letter to the Workers of England Union in response to their recent comments about the potential health implications of 5G and wireless infrastructure. Their openness to receiving and sharing evidence-based information marks a promising step toward protecting worker welfare across England.
The letter highlights:
📌 Urgent concerns from doctors and scientists about outdated ICNIRP guidelines, which only account for short-term heating not long-term or non-thermal biological harm.
📌 Legal rulings addressing health risks, including Thomas v Cheltenham Borough Council (2025) and Yasmin Skelt v First Secretary of State (2003).
📌 Disability law victories recognising Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity (EHS) as a disabling condition, now afforded protection under UK law.
📌 New findings from the WHO and IARC (2025), confirming that radiofrequency radiation causes cancer in animals. In response, many leading independent scientists are calling for RF radiation to be reclassified as a Group 1 “known human carcinogen.”
📌 A respectful call to action urging protection for vulnerable workers, full transparency, and the application of the Precautionary Principle in workplace safety standards.
