Petition: Help Stop Climate Change – WIRE Communication Before It Is Too Late

This is a simple way to get information to both the President and Congress about what needs to be done to reduce energy usage and protect public health and the environment.

No federal funds should be used to subsidize WIRELESS communication since WIRELESS communication uses over ten times more energy than WIRED communication to send the same information.

Contrary to industry representations, wireless technology is neither a sustainable nor environmentally-friendly technology because wireless connectivity uses far more energy than wired connectivity. According to Energy Consumption in Wired and Wireless Access Networks, “Wireless technologies will continue to consume at least 10 times more power than wired technologies when providing comparable access rates and traffic volumes. PON [passive optical networks] will continue to be the most energy-efficient access technology.” (http://people.eng.unimelb.edu.au/rtucker/publications/files/energy-wired-wireless.pdf) A paper looking at the energy consumption of cloud computing states, “Our energy calculations show that by 2015, wireless cloud will consume up to 43 TWh, compared to only 9.2 TWh in 2012, an increase of 460%. This is an increase in carbon footprint from 6 megatonnes of CO2 in 2012 to up to 30 megatonnes of CO2 in 2015, the equivalent of adding 4.9 million cars to the roads. Fiber optic broadband to the premises is the gold standard for fast, energy-efficient communication.

In fact, the fiber optic backbone, not the wireless frequencies, are what would allow 5G to attain speeds that technology companies promise.

A WIRED fiber optic broadband connection is safer, faster, and more secure than 5G ever could be since the wireless component of 5G is ALWAYS going to be slower than the fiber optic backbone it relies on.

WIRELESS technology is inherently hackable since it essentially “shouts” the communication for everyone to hear, relying on inherently hackable encryption to protect your communication. Data sent by a wired connection is contained within that wire and is thus much more secure.

In a letter to President Biden (https://ehtrust.org/dear-president-biden-halt-5g-assess-environmental-impact-minimize-technology-health-effects-to-children/)experts recommend that all broadband funding should be dedicated solely to expanding safe, fast, reliable, secure, energy-efficient, WIRED broadband, stating:

“We write to you as scientists deeply committed to protecting public health and the environment and as authors of several hundred publications, including some prepared for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. We are writing to urge you to take immediate actions to reduce and restrict the rapid and continuing increase in our schools, workplaces, and homes of a harmful environmental pollutant — wireless microwave radiofrequency radiation (RFR).”

The radiation emitted by WIRELESS technology damages and kills trees and harms birds, bees, bats, insects and frogs. WIRELESS radiation, along with other common sources of radiofrequency (RF) exposure, is causing a public health crisis (https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=3174&v=faSSMkA6jUo&feature=emb_logo)

The Environmental Health Trust (www.EHTrust.org)has won a lawsuit against the FCC for re-affirming their outdated thermally-based wireless radiation exposure limits because people and the environment are being harmed by WIRELESS technology.

In its decision in the case of Environmental Health Trust, et al vs. Federal Communications Commission, the D.C. Court of Appeals stated “Ultimately, the Commission’s order remains bereft of any explanation as to why, in light of the studies in its record, its guidelines remain adequate.”

The Court has instructed the FCC to “address the impacts of RF radiation on children, the health implications of long-term exposure to RF radiation…” and “address the impacts of RF radiation on the environment.” However, existing wireless devices compliant with the current outdated FCC RF exposure limits continue to cause harmful biological effects.

Over 9 million people have already been injured by WIRELESS technology and other sources of RF exposure such that they experience immediate disabling health effects upon exposure to WIRELESS radiation. The ubiquity of WIRELESS technology is violating their rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act. It is violating the Constitutional Rights and Human Rights of all U.S. residents.

Federal funding should only be used to provide safe fast reliable secure energy-efficient WIRED broadband. Only WIRED broadband systems can provide the safe, secure, reliable, high-speed broadband access that people need.

NO federal funding should go to support WIRELESS communication because it guzzles energy thereby exacerbating climate change and is unsafe, unreliable, and insecure.
