1. Electromagnetic Hyper-Sensitivity
Current definition of EHS, formally WHO calls it IEI-EMF, is a combined definition of EHS and IEI.
The original definition of EHS:
“a phenomenon where individuals experience adverse health effects while using or being in the vicinity of devices emanating electric, magnetic or electromagnetic fields (EMFs)”
Definition expanded in 2004 at the WHO EMF Project meeting in Prague, to include Idiopathic Environmental Intolerance (IEI) defined as:
“(i) an acquired disorder with multiple recurrent symptoms, (ii) associated with diverse environmental factors tolerated by the majority of people, (iii) not explained by any know psychiatric or psychological disorder.”
Hence, the current definition of the sensitivity to EMF is called:
IEI-EMF is idiopathic environmental intolerance associated with electromagnetic fields
This definition indicates existence of association between EHS symptoms and EMF but does not state that the EHS is caused by EMF. Association is made by the self-diagnosed EHS persons as there is no objective diagnostic method to detect EHS.
In current situation of inadequate scientific evidence on causality link between EHS and EMF, caused by the flaws and inadequacies of predominantly psychological provocation studies, calling the EHS as IEI-EMF is premature and not supported by scientific evidence.
2. Influential Australians
Australians have a strong influence over the issue of wireless communication’s radiation safety and exposure standards. It all begun with Mike Repacholi, when he detached the non-ionizing radiation issues from the IRPA, formed ICNIRP and become its first Chairman, followed by the organization of the WHO EMF Project, of which he become Head, while retaining Chairman Emeritus post at ICNIRP. Still scientifically active Repacholi was, and is, followed by a number of other Australians and some of the currently most prominent EMF-influencers from the down-under are listed in the Table below…SNIP
