Temecula Valley Unified School District California trustees just passed a ban on new cell phone towers on school property. Their actions also bar the district from renewing existing tower leases. The vote also sets the stage for an outside party to monitor cell tower emissions and share that data with the school district and public.
Also Tuesday, trustees voted 3-2 to pass a resolution asking the city of Temecula to require 1,500-foot setbacks between wireless towers and schools and to notify the district when a tower is sought near school property.
School Board Trustee Dr. Joseph Komrosky holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Claremont Graduate University and his thesis was The Corporate Character of Eudaimonist Virtue Ethics Cautioning the Invisible Environment of Harmful EMFs Resulting from 5G Technology. He has been raising the issue for some time. Environmental Health Trust was invited to meet with some of the school leadership a few weeks ago, answered questions and shared information on cell tower radiation and health. We are thankful for their interest in learning more about this important health and school safety issue.

Today, we are writing to applaud your decision to halt new cell towers on school property in the school district. We are experts in the field who together have published hundreds of scientific studies in environmental health and we offer our expertise to you for your ongoing investigation into this issue.

A more recent review entitled “Evidence for a health risk by RF on humans living around mobile phone base stations: From radiofrequency sickness to cancer by Balmori (2022) found associations between living near a cell tower and radiofrequency sickness, cancer and changes in biochemical parameters. We have attached this study for your review.We note that schools are now taking measures to reduce cell tower radiation from nearby cell towers. As an example, the Desert Sage High School in central Tucson, a public charter school has installed shielding along the wall facing the cell tower to reduce the cell tower radiation exposures in the classroom. - Encinitas, California- No antennas within 500 feet from residential dwelling unit, No antennas within 500 feet of daycare facility or school
- Calabasas California- All Tier 2 wireless facilities must be setback at least 1,000 feet from schools, homes, and parks.
- North Hempstead, New York- No installations within 350 feet of a school
- Copake, New York: Fall zones: no facility may be within 1,500 feet from homes, schools, churches, or other buildings containing dwelling units
- Scarsdale, New York– no antennas within 500 feet from homes, schools, parks, and houses of worship.
