A new investigation by Microwave News has brought renewed scrutiny to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) review of the health effects of radiofrequency (RF) radiation.
The article reports allegations by Professor Meike Mevissen, who led the WHO-commissioned systematic review of animal studies on RF radiation and cancer, that her research team faced repeated attempts to influence how the review should be conducted. According to the report, she said the team had to defend its scientific independence throughout the review process.
These allegations come at a significant time. Professor Meike Mevissen’s WHO-commissioned systematic review concluded that the available evidence indicates RF-EMF exposure increases the incidence of cancer in experimental animals. The review was downloaded around 28,000 times in 2025, making it Environment International‘s most-downloaded paper of the year and bringing unprecedented international attention to the evidence. https://microwavenews.com/short-takes-archive/rf-cancer-review-1
Earlier this year, the Radiation Research Trust (RRT) wrote to UK Government ministers and MPs calling for greater transparency and independence in the WHO RF-EMF review process. RRT also encouraged members of the public to contact their elected representatives and support calls for an open and accountable scientific review.
Scientific assessments that underpin public health policy must be transparent, independent and free from undue influence. These latest allegations deserve careful and urgent attention.
