Freedom of Choice in a Digital Age – Act Now!

This important petition was launched by artist Tim Arnold, who has made a bold “Digital Departure” by stepping away from social media to live life on his own terms. His message resonates with so many of us:
“No one should face barriers to healthcare, education, banking, travel, or communication because they cannot or choose not to use a digital device. Digital should be a choice, not a requirement.”

The EM Radiation Research Trust fully supports this call. In our recent submission to Parliament we warned that digital ID systems and technology-dependent access, including scanners, mobile devices, and wireless networks, could increase exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields.

We highlight the potential health and accessibility risks for vulnerable populations, including users of Active Implantable Medical Devices, people with electromagnetic hypersensitivity, and immune-compromised individuals:

♦ Increased radiofrequency radiation exposure linked to health risks
♦ Exclusion of people with medical implants or electromagnetic sensitivities
♦ Legal obligations under the Equality Act 2010 to provide reasonable non-digital alternatives
♦ Evidence from UK case law confirming public health concerns about electromagnetic fields cannot be dismissed solely on ICNIRP compliance
♦ Undermining privacy, equality, and autonomy

Our conclusion is clear: The EM Radiation Research Trust opposes mandatory digital ID on both public health and civil liberties grounds. Policymakers must ensure safety, privacy, and equality, and protect the right to access services without a digital device.
