At the Annual General Meeting of Alphabet Inc., the parent company of U.S. giant Google, scheduled to be held on Friday June 7, 2024, shareholder proposal number 5 tabled by Lendri Purcell will be debated. In it, the Co-President of Jonas Philantropies calls for the introduction of an annual report designed to provide better information on the RF exposure levels of its PIXEL products, and to improve their safety.

Alphabet Inc asks shareholders to vote against the proposal

To explain this position, Alphabet Inc. cited the following main reasons:

“Our Board of Directors recommends a vote AGAINST the stockholder proposal because:

  • Our cellular devices meet all regulatory and safety requirements for countries where the products are sold, and we maintain transparency around the safety and regulatory information regarding use of Pixel devices

  • Current regulatory limits are backed by scientific research, which have concluded that long-term radiofrequency exposure below the exposure limits has not been established as causing any type of adverse health effects in humans”

Canadian regulators find two models of Pixel smartphones in serious breach of exposure limits

Did Alphabet Inc. deliberately fail to inform its shareholders that some of its PIXEL brand cell phones had been found by the Canadian regulator Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) to exceed regulatory exposure levels?

Indeed, in a press release from our NGO dated March 29, 2022, we reported on the long fight for transparency waged with the Canadian authorities to obtain the results of tests carried out between 2016 and 2021 by the ISED on 90 models of cell phones.

We made public the results of two smartphones manufactured by Google LLC (including the Pixel 3a and 3a XL), which were particularly worrying since the 2019/2020 tests (model supplied by the manufacturer) showed head SARs of 5.27 W/kg and 4.02 W/kg respectively for 1 g (limit of 1.6 W/kg). The trunk SARs are also above regulatory levels (2.89 W/kg and 1.82 W/kg) for a limit of 1.6 W/kg.

These levels are among the highest and most dangerous for users’ health that we have recorded since we began our actions.

ISED indicated that a software update had been requested from Google LLC to enable a return to compliance levels, but gave no further details on the new SAR levels.

Alphabet Inc.’s claim to have complied with all regulatory and safety requirements is in fact fully contradicted by the publication in 2022 of control tests by the Canadian regulatory agency.

Alerte Phonegate asks Alphabet Inc. shareholders to support this proposal

For Dr. Marc Arazi, who sounded the alarm on the Phonegate scandal in 2016 and is the author of the book Phonegate (Massot éditions):

“We would like to salute Lendri Purcell’s work to inform and empower Alphabet Inc. shareholders. On the other hand, we are astonished that Google has failed to mention to its shareholders that it has been audited for exceeding its exposure levels for two of its Pixel models sold in Canada and therefore certainly also in the United States. Our NGO is therefore officially calling on Alphabet Inc. to correct the erroneous and biased information provided to them without delay, and before the shareholders’ vote. Faced with such a lack of transparency, we can only note that Lendri Purcell’s requests are perfectly appropriate and justified.”
